Brian Frantum has been a lawyer for over 20 years.
Mr. Frantum is originally from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and attended Juniata College. He later studied at Widener University School of Law, where he graduated in 1996.
Mr. Frantum’s legal career has been interesting and varied. He began first by assisting other lawyers with research and document preparation in the areas of procedure, constitutional law, personal injury, and medical malpractice. After that he was employed by the Department of Public Welfare, where he researched and handled cases on various issues including child abuse expunctions, adoption assistance benefits, and medical assistance program exceptions and prior authorization cases.
The focus of his practice then shifted to the area of workers’ compensation. He started by working for the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, assisting several workers’compensation judges in researching various workers’ compensation issues and drafting numerous workers’ compensation decisions.
Beginning in 2000, Mr. Frantum became an associate for a defense firm in Media, Pennsylvania, where he handled more than 1000 workers’ compensation cases. He represented insurance companies and municipal employers and defended workers’ compensation cases filed against them. In nearly 20 years as a defense attorney, he litigated nearly every issue under the Workers’ Compensation Act, attending all kinds of hearings, conducting depositions of fact witnesses, accounting experts, medical experts, and vocational experts, and writing briefs and proposed findings on all these cases. Many of these cases involved police officers and firefighters and their benefits under the Heart and Lung Act, and hot button issues regarding subrogation for municipal clients. He defended hundreds of cases on appeal before the Workers’ Compensation Appeal Board, and handled approximately 40 cases before the Commonwealth Court, prevailing on many of them. He has also handled cases before the state Supreme Court.
In 2018, Mr. Frantum created Frantum Legal Services so that he could concentrate on his two professional passions, providing legal research and writing services, and assisting individuals with top notch representation for their legal issues. Today, the dual practice of Frantum Legal Services is geared toward providing these services to individual clients and other lawyers alike.
